What Is the Difference Between Cap and Capless Wigs

Ask Your Wig Concierge

Q: I am diagnosed with a medically induced hair loss condition, my hair is thinning, my wigs often itchy and irritate my scalp. What type of cap is best for me?

A: The two main wig caps are: lace wig and capless/non-lace. Based on your needs a Capless/Non lace wig cap contraction would work best due to the sensitivity of your scalp.

Capless wigs simply means that the base of the wig is open, airy and made from a soft, wefted material. It is not that the wig has no cap; it does.

Wefts, or curtains of hair, are sewn onto a thin strip of elastic material. The wefts on a capless wig are less dense and are sewn-in with vertical lace strips.

This leaves a lot of open space in the cap.

You will not feel as hot with a capless wig. Your hair and scalp will be able to breathe better than with a traditional cap wig.

The airy or open spaces between the wefts allow for air to get through and give much better ventilation. This is a crucial factor if you live in a warmer climate or get hot easily.

In Conclusion

Your hair is your crown. Deciding on the best wig cap is important and will affect how you like your new wig. It is an essential part of who you are. When you look good, you feel good. Your spirits lift, and your confidence also boosts.
